AI search tools help you check and improve how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews find, read and quote your pages. This free collection covers the whole job: whether your writing is easy to cite, whether answers are the right length, which entities your pages cover, what people really ask AI assistants, an llms-full.txt file for your site, and a log of when AI answers mention your brand. Every tool accepts bulk input.

If you would rather have the work done for you, my AI SEO services cover audits, rewrites and monthly AI visibility tracking.

Key takeaways

  • AI search optimisation is ordinary good SEO plus extra care for clarity: crawlable pages, direct answers, named entities, specific facts and cited sources.
  • AI assistants quote passages, not whole pages, so each paragraph should make sense on its own.
  • Every tool here takes bulk input: many drafts, many URLs, many prompts or many AI answers in one run, with CSV export.
  • No tool can promise a citation. These tools measure the things you control and show you what to fix first.

What is AI search optimisation?

AI search optimisation is the work of making your content easy for AI-powered search tools to find, understand and cite. People also call it generative engine optimisation (GEO) or answer engine optimisation (AEO). The names differ, but the job is the same: a reader asks a question in ChatGPT or Google, a system pulls passages from the web to write the answer, and you want your page to be one of the sources it reads and links to.

Google says in its guidance on AI features and your website that there are no special technical requirements for appearing in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet. OpenAI’s ChatGPT search relies on its own crawler, OAI-SearchBot, to find pages it can cite. In both cases the same fundamentals of semantic SEO apply: clear structure, real expertise and content that answers the question better than anything else.

The tools in this collection

ToolWhat it answersBulk input
AI Citation Readiness ScorerIs this text easy for an AI system to quote?50 drafts or 20 URLs
Answer Snippet Length CheckerIs each answer 40 to 60 words and direct?50 pages or 20 URLs
Entity ExtractorWhich people, places, brands and concepts does a page cover, and which do competitors cover that it misses?20 texts or URLs
FAQ Generator for AI SearchWhich questions should a page answer, and what is the FAQPage schema?100 topics
Prompt-to-Query MapperWhat search queries hide inside the long questions people ask ChatGPT?2,000 prompts
llms-full.txt GeneratorHow do I give AI tools a clean Markdown copy of my key pages?20 URLs or 100 files
Brand Mention TrackerHow often do AI answers mention my brand, cite my site and rank me against competitors?200 answers

Three related tools live in other collections. The AI Crawler Access Checker shows whether robots.txt lets GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot in. The AI Search Readiness Checker tests a single live page for crawlability, structured data and dates. The llms.txt Generator builds the short index file that pairs with llms-full.txt.

  1. Make sure AI crawlers can reach you. Run the AI Crawler Access Checker. If OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot is blocked, nothing else on this page will help.
  2. Find what people ask. Collect real questions from sales calls, emails and the prompts you test in ChatGPT. Map them to queries with the Prompt-to-Query Mapper, then label intent with the Search Intent Classifier.
  3. Plan the page. Group the queries with the Keyword Grouper and turn each group into an outline with the Content Brief Generator. Use the FAQ Generator to list the questions the page must answer.
  4. Write answer-first, then measure. Score the draft with the AI Citation Readiness Scorer, check every answer with the Answer Snippet Length Checker, and compare its entities against the pages that already rank with the Entity Extractor.
  5. Publish and support it. Add accurate schema, check it with the JSON-LD Validator, and add your best pages to llms-full.txt.
  6. Track the outcome. Run the same prompt set every month and log the answers in the Brand Mention Tracker so you can see mention rate, citations and share of voice change over time.

What makes a page easy for AI search to cite?

AI systems that write answers break pages into passages and choose the ones that answer the question most clearly. Passages that tend to be chosen share a few traits, and each tool in this collection measures one or more of them.

  • A direct answer early. The first two or three sentences state the answer. Background comes after. See how to optimise content for AI Overviews.
  • Self-contained paragraphs. A paragraph that starts with “It” or “This” loses its meaning when quoted alone. Name the subject again.
  • Named entities. Specific people, organisations, places and products connect your text to things search engines already know. Read entity-based SEO for the method.
  • Specific facts. Prices, dates, measurements and counts make a passage worth quoting. Vague claims are rarely chosen.
  • Visible sources. Say where a fact comes from and link to it. This supports the E-E-A-T signals readers and reviewers look for.
  • Clear structure. Question headings, short sections, lists and tables help both readers and systems find the right passage. Our guide to passage indexing explains why.

How bulk input works across the tools

Every tool in the collection accepts more than one item at a time, because AI search work is usually done across a whole site, not one page. Text tools take several documents separated by a line containing only three equals signs (===), or several uploaded files. URL tools take up to 20 web addresses, one per line; our server fetches each page once, the main content is pulled out in your browser, and nothing is stored. The prompt and FAQ tools take one item per line. Results come back as one comparison table, with a detail view for each item and a CSV export for your spreadsheet.

The URL limit of 20 per run keeps the free tools fair for everyone. For a full-site audit, run them in batches or ask for a professional review.

Where these tools fit in a wider SEO plan

AI search does not replace ordinary search optimisation. Google’s AI features draw on the same index as its normal results, and ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot all lean on traditional search signals to choose which pages to read. A page that cannot rank, or that Google has not indexed, is unlikely to be cited. Start with keyword research, build topical authority with clusters of linked pages, and use these tools to make each page easier to quote. Our guides to ChatGPT search SEO and Perplexity SEO cover the assistant-specific details.

Limits to know about

These tools read text and structure. They do not see the private signals AI systems use, cannot measure trust or authority, and cannot tell you why a specific answer did or did not cite you. Entity types, intent labels and tone are estimated from word patterns, so check anything important by hand. The brand mention log is saved only in your browser, so export it regularly.

Questions about AI search tools

What is the best free tool for AI search optimisation?

There is no single best tool, because AI search optimisation covers several separate tasks. Start with the AI Citation Readiness Scorer to see how quotable your writing is, then use the other tools in this collection for answer length, entities, questions and tracking.

Can these tools get my website cited in ChatGPT?

No tool can guarantee a citation. ChatGPT and other assistants choose sources with their own systems. These tools improve the parts you control: crawler access, clarity, structure, entities and facts.

Do the tools store what I paste?

No. Pasted text and uploaded files are processed in your browser. When you enter URLs, our server fetches each page once to return its HTML and does not keep it. The brand mention log stays in your own browser until you export or clear it.

How many pages can I check at once?

Text tools accept up to 50 documents per run, URL tools up to 20 addresses, the Prompt-to-Query Mapper up to 2,000 prompts and the Brand Mention Tracker up to 200 answers. Larger jobs can be run in batches.

Is AI search optimisation different from SEO?

It builds on SEO rather than replacing it. Indexing, relevance and authority still matter. AI search adds extra weight on direct answers, self-contained passages and clear sources, because systems quote short pieces of text.

Which AI assistants do the tools cover?

The guidance applies to ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude. The Brand Mention Tracker lets you log answers from any of them, including Meta AI, Grok and DeepSeek.
