A content brief is a one-page plan that tells a writer what a page must cover: the main keyword, search intent, page type, title options, an H2 outline, questions to answer, related terms and internal links. The free Content Brief Generator builds one from a main keyword and a list of related keywords with optional search volume. In bulk mode it builds one brief per keyword group, including straight from a Keyword Grouper CSV export, so you can plan a whole topic cluster in one run.

Key takeaways

  • A good brief turns a keyword list into decisions: what kind of page to write, which sections it needs and what to leave out.
  • Related keywords that share a meaning are merged into one section. “Teeth whitening cost” and “teeth whitening price” become one cost section.
  • The tool places your internal links in the section each one fits best, which supports topical mapping across a cluster.
  • Briefs are built from your keywords, not from live search results. Always check the pages that rank before writing.

How the outline is built

Each related keyword is turned into a heading by its pattern. Questions such as “how long does teeth whitening last” become question headings. Cost and price keywords become one “How much does… cost?” section, with the location added. “A vs B” keywords become a comparison section. “Best” keywords become a best-of section, “near me” keywords become a local section, and safety and side effect keywords merge into one safety section. Informational pages start with a “What is…?” definition. Transactional and local pages, or any page with a business name, end with a booking or next-step section.

When you include search volume, keywords are ordered by volume, so the outline follows demand. Duplicate keywords and word-order variants are removed.

How to use the Content Brief Generator

  1. On the first line, type the main keyword. Below it, add related keywords one per line, with search volume after a comma if you have it.
  2. For bulk briefs, separate keyword groups with a line containing only ===, or paste or upload a CSV exported from the Keyword Grouper. Each group becomes one brief, up to 100.
  3. Optionally add an audience, a location and a business name.
  4. Under “Pages to link to”, list existing pages as title | URL, one per line.
  5. Press Build brief. One group shows the brief directly. Several groups show a summary table and a picker to read each brief.
  6. Download the brief as Markdown, or download all briefs and a summary CSV for your content calendar.

Example output

The Load example button builds two briefs with Karachi as the location. “Teeth whitening” is labelled informational, so it becomes a guide with a “What is teeth whitening?” opening section, a cost section that merges the cost and price keywords, a single safety section that merges “is teeth whitening safe” with “side effects”, a local section and sections for home whitening, kits and laser whitening, nine sections in all. “Dental implants cost” is labelled transactional, so it becomes a pricing page with titles such as “Dental Implants Cost in Karachi”, sections on cost, lifespan, single-tooth implants, whether implants are worth it and implants versus a bridge, and a closing next-step section.

Planning a topic cluster with bulk briefs

Bulk mode is built for topic clustering. Group your keyword research with the Keyword Grouper, export the CSV, and paste it here to get one brief per page in the cluster. Add your pillar page and every planned page to “Pages to link to”, and each brief will tell the writer where to link to the others. That internal linking is what turns separate articles into a connected cluster and builds topical authority.

  1. Group keywords and check each group’s intent with the Search Intent Classifier.
  2. Check that no two groups target the same intent, which would cause cannibalisation. The Keyword Cannibalization Finder checks existing pages.
  3. Build all briefs at once and download the summary CSV as a content plan.
  4. After writing, check each draft with the AI Citation Readiness Scorer and the Answer Snippet Length Checker.

What makes a brief useful to a writer

A brief should make decisions, not just list keywords. It should say what the reader wants, what type of page answers that, which questions must be covered, what evidence is needed and where the page sits among your other pages. It should not ask a writer to fit every keyword in exactly or to hit a word count for its own sake. Our guide to writing an SEO content brief includes a full template, and our semantic SEO guide explains why covering a topic’s entities and questions matters more than repeating a phrase.

Before you hand a brief over, add what the tool cannot know: your prices, your process, a real example from your work and the sources you trust. Those first-hand details are what make a page worth citing.

Limits to know about

The generator reads the wording of your keywords. It does not see the search results, so it cannot tell you what Google currently ranks or how long competing pages are. Intent is estimated from signal words, and keywords with no signal word are treated as informational. Suggested lengths are typical ranges for each page type, not targets. Review the outline, merge or remove sections that do not serve the reader, and confirm the page type against the live results.

Questions about the Content Brief Generator

What is an SEO content brief?

An SEO content brief is a plan for one page. It sets out the main keyword, search intent, page type, title, outline, questions to answer, related terms and internal links, so a writer can produce the right page the first time.

Can I create content briefs in bulk?

Yes. Separate keyword groups with a line containing only ===, or paste a Keyword Grouper CSV export. The tool builds one brief per group, up to 100, and lets you download them all.

Does the tool analyse competitors?

No. It builds the brief from your keywords. Compare your outline with the top-ranking pages by hand, or compare their entities with the Entity Extractor.

How long should my article be?

Long enough to answer the topic completely and no longer. The tool gives a typical range for the page type as a starting point; match the depth of the pages that already rank.

How does it decide where internal links go?

It compares the words in each link’s title and URL with each section’s heading and keywords, ignoring words from the main keyword, and places the link in the closest match.

Does the tool store my keywords?

No. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing is sent to my server or saved.
