Shopify handles some SEO basics well out of the box (clean URLs, HTTPS by default) but creates its own specific problems worth checking directly.
Collection Page Content
Default collection pages are often just a grid of products with no text content. Add a short, genuinely useful description above or below the grid targeting the collection’s core keyword.
Product Page Duplication
If you sell the same product through multiple collections or variants, make sure canonical tags point to a single authoritative URL.
App Bloat and Speed
Every app you install adds scripts that load on every page, whether or not that page needs them. Audit installed apps regularly and remove ones you’re not actively using.
Structured Data
Confirm your theme or app is outputting correct Product schema (price, availability, reviews) — missing or broken schema is one of the most common issues we find in e-commerce SEO audits.
Out-of-Stock Handling
Decide on a consistent policy — redirect, keep live with a “notify me” option, or noindex — rather than letting out-of-stock pages 404 and lose their rankings.
